ABOUT HISTORY
Mark Gadsden was introduced to the power of art at an early age. Sketching cartoon characters at three years old evolved into a long-lasting passion of intense artistic expression. He has been drawing, carving, and painting ever since. Within his art, Mark explores uplifting the African-American people and expressing the need to achieve social change. He examines a diverse range of themes, from Hip Hop to the methodical system of slavery and racism. In turn he unremittingly promotes the unity of family and the remembrance of our ancestor’s struggle, so that we will not forget. After graduation from Winston-Salem State University, Mark taught and shared the gift of art to special-needs elementary students in Berkeley and Orangeburg counties. His focus mediums are Watercolors, Oil, Pastels, Prints, and Acrylic. Mark is well-known for his vibrant use of color and exquisite attention to detail. His work has been shown in local exhibitions with Print Studio South as well as being a participant in a juried art exhibition with the Moja Arts Festival. He has also received art grants from The Community Foundation serving Coastal South Carolina in 2000 and 2002. He currently resides in Lithonia, GA.
